New Senior Citizen Theatre Group Announced in the Ozarks

The Senior Theatre Guild to Provide a Creative Outlet for the 55+ Community

Lamar, Missouri – Creative aging is an important tool for a local community. An entertainment veteran is bringing this to the 4 states.

Jack Truman, 40 year veteran in the entertainment business, has announced the Senior Theatre Guild, a new community theatre designed with a focus on the 55+ community. Truman believes this has been a long time coming, and is needed here in the Ozarks.

The senior community has no form of arts to help them around here”, Truman said in press materials. “Ageism is one form of discrimination that is rampant in our country. There are many health benefits for older adults by participating in theatrical activities. By providing a creative outlet for the older community, seniors can explore their artistic talents and express themselves in many ways. The benefits of senior citizen theatre include, but are not unlimited to lifelong learning, social engagement, connection with the community, as well as physical and cognitive activity. I'm so happy to create this locally for the community.”

The Senior Theatre Guild's mission statement: The Senior Theatre Guild is a theatre company with an emphasis and focus on the older community. We believe that a culture of growth and respect, along with a focus on the 55+ community, creates the most dynamic and impactful theatre. By eliminating ageism and having a commitment to equity, diversity, and accessibility, we aim to be a theatre for the community. Older adults are vital assets to the community. The arts can help older adults accomplish many goals, and provide many benefits. Our local programs and opportunities provide a creative outlet and foster a sense of community.

Truman believes that by providing a variety of theatre programs, including staged readings, workshops, improvisation, poetry, community discussions, and much more, this will give the senior community a creative way to express themselves locally. Local venues will include schools, senior centers, theatres, as well as many other local places.

All of us get old” Truman says. “It's up to us to be the change we want to see in the world”.
