A dramaturg is a researcher. They're the philosopher in the room. There is a philosophy to art. It's important for a dramaturg to be both a literary manager and a researcher for a show. They're a resource for everyone in the play; the actors, crew, and more. But they're really a right hand person for the director. They do historical research, analyze the script, culture, and much, much more. They even work with local marketing, to get locals involved and connected with the show! A lot goes into Dramaturgy.
