This month's philosopher is Jean-Paul Satre, considered by many to be the Father of Existentialism.
Satre is a major influence in this world. Both a philosopher and a playwright, he made a major impact in both philosophy and the arts. Satre did a lot of writing, and along with being a playwright, was also a screenwriter, biographer, novelist and much more.
He was awarded the Nobel prize in 1964 and refused it. Satre did not believe in awards. With existentialism, being and nothingness are a primary factor. This plays into the meaningless theme with Absurdism. Satre was influenced by other thinkers, and made it his life to make a difference in the world.
This man was very involved in political engagement. He co-founded a resistance group, became a major voice, and wrote underground literature and plays which included No Exit, which became very popular as a play during its time because of its absurdism themes.
It's interesting at this time, the world is heavily involved in apathy; there is a connection with this to absurdism and existentialism.
Satre is a man for our time.
