November Philsopher: Cicero

It's so important to be educated and informed about philosophers we know nothing about.

This month's philosopher is Cicero!

You may not know much about this man. To be called a 'Cicero' is a person who informs sightseers; a tour guide. However, a lot goes into this name in our history.

Cicero was born over 2006 years ago, and was a scholar and a stoic. However, he was much more than that. A jack of all trades. Just think about it: during his life, he was a lawyer, a writer, philosopher and much more!

He had many influences, including Plato and Aristotle.

His life coincided with the fall of the Roman Empire. Cicero was very important during his time. He wrote about many things, including laws, friendship, old age, fate, academics and much more. His attitude was that we need to enjoy the time we have here on earth. Also, he was a big believer in virtue and goodness. It's a wonderful thing looking at his thoughts about Stoicism: he believed that only the wise man was rich and free.

Cicero was a major writer of the times on subjects like politics and philosophy.

He was against Marc Antony, and attacked him much in public speaking. There was much political violence during this time. He was ahead of his time, and tried to warn others about violence, but knew it was a false hope.

Unfortunately, Cicero was executed while trying to escape to Italy. Antony displayed his severed head and hands to the public.

Research him. There's a lot out there!
