Vegan Theatre and Film - Plant-Based Arts

Who does plant-based arts?

No one in this country can be found. In the UK, there is a vegan theatre group called the Garlinge Theatre. This is wonderful to see. However, you would think that in a creative country like America, there would be vegan theatre and vegan filmmaking. Such is not the case. People who are considered vegan are still considered 'weirdos'. They don't fit into modern culture. The arts are all about the money. This should not be the case. People create art to create something different. Not to put a buck in their pocket. It's supposed to be outside the box. That's what makes it true art.

If you want to commercialize things, and just care about the money, there is a world out there for you. Broadway is all about making theatre for a buck. Putting people in the seats and charging hundreds of dollars per seat. It's all about the money. You really need to go Off-Off-Broadway to find alternative art. It's hard to find in a theatre city like NYC. The arts are so much about making a profit.

And what about Los Angeles? It's a TV and film town. The capital of the entertainment business. You would think that in a city like that, there would be vegan filmmakers that make plant based art. Nope. It's a commercial city, too. Even so-called 'independent film' isn't truly independent. Sure, you find ways to make different art outside the studio system. But true independence? Even independent film is all about making the money.

This is one way both theatre and film are connected. They're all about making money. Most people don't think this way about art. But it's a business. It should be about opening people's eyes, and being exposed to things they know nothing about. Or expose them to things they know about but are afraid to discuss. And the way they're made? Both theatre and film are made the same way. It's a process that's done the same way, and has been done that way for years.

People want to hear stories that are outside the box, and are considered alternative. That's true art. That's what making art is all about. Not being afraid to take a chance and speak your voice. It's the artists that are unheard that make the future. They have stories to tell and things to say. Think about it. With big business, the business creators were considered weirdos for their time. It took innovative thinkers to create the things we use every day.

You don't need money to make art. Whether you're writing words on a page, or making a film with a camera and a computer, things can be made on an ultra-low budget. It depends on what's important to you. If making art is important, you will find a way to make your art. Without the money.

Veganism is the future. It doesn't matter why a person develops this lifestyle. It could be for their health, for our fellow creatures, or they might just want to make a difference in saving our planet. There's a lot of reasons why people become plant-based. And you don't need to be vegan to have this creative mindset. What is considered radical in today's culture? Creating vegan theatre, vegan film and art is something different that the world wants to embrace. It may not be the most popular thing, but there is an audience out there for it!

What is vegan theatre? It's something to think about. Research it for answers!

And creating art with older vegan characters? The Senior Theatre Guild is in the process of making that new art. Stay tuned!!!
