March 2026 Philosopher: Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius had an amazing life.

It's something when your life is still remembered thousands of years later.

He was an emperor 2,000 years ago, but is best known as a Stoic philosopher. His book Meditations is a Bible with stoicism today. Along with Stoic philosophers like Seneca and Epictetus (the 3 most remembered legends of Stoics), Marcus is one of the most prominent Stoic philosophers of today. His writings remain highly influential with today's culture. In fact, Ryan Holiday of The Daily Stoic uses quotes from his book religiously in his daily emails, on his Youtube channel, and podcast.

He wrote Meditations for himself, not for the public; as a guide for himself for self-improvement.

A little known thing about Marcus: he was Stoic as a ruler during a plague. Sound familiar?

Marcus ruled during very difficult times in the Roman empire, and is remembered as fair and good with justice. As a matter of fact, his legacy as a thinker and a writer while emperor during wartime has far outlasted his legacy as a ruler.

He had many great quotes when he was alive, but one of his most famous is "The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts".

Marcus was only 58 when he died. Think about that.

And research him! There's a lot out there in the internet world about him.
