Fredrich Nietzche - April 2026 Philosopher

Here at the Senior Theatre Guild, we combine a lot of philosophy with theatre. There's a reason for that. Theatre is very philosophical. It's also political. It has been for thousands of years. With this blog, our monthly philosophers focus on Stoicism. Even though they may have different philosophical views (i.e., absurdism, existentialism), Stoicism is the main one.

This month's philosopher: Friedrich Nietzshe.

Nietzshe was a genius, and ahead of his time. A German philosopher, theatre and music were very important elements to him. He was a major philosophical figure to people such as Jack London, Huey Newton, Camus, Satre, D.H. Lawrence, Richard Nixon, even Adolf Hitler. He was influenced by ancient Greek philosophy, and many philosophers, including Kant, Plato, Schopenhauer, Emerson, Strindberg and Dostoevsky.

His works include poetry, books, criticism and essays. A couple of his most famous ones include The Birth of Tragedy and Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Included in his writings are thoughts of religion and nihilism.

There is a lot of information about him out there. Google him!

Some quotes by Neitzsche:

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music".

"I am not a man, I am dynamite".

"You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star".
